"The Capitol Ornamental Concrete Specialties Company developed the Eco-Logic concrete block in the late 1990s in response to specifications by Arnold Wilday (a joint venture of landscape architects Henry Arnold and Cassandra Wilday) for Pier A Park in Hoboken, New Jersey (Michael Grossman, personal communication 2001). Having developed the manufacturing capability for this block and understanding its environmental advantages, Capitol gave the model its name and continues to make it available."

"The purpose of the porous Eco-Logic pavement at Pier A Park was the provision of viable rooting space for trees in the midst of considerable pedestrian traffic... Many trees are planted in the block-paved areas; many others are planted in areas surfaced with turf or aggregate... The pavement bears the load of very heavy pedestrian traffic and occasional park maintenance vehicles. The porous, permeable surface provides air and water to tree roots growing in the air-entrained soil below."

The Eco-Logic blocks 1/4" spacers are wide enough to receive #10 aggregate and yet are still the narrowest width joints that you can have and still be significantly porous and permeable. This porous and permeable surface creates a viable rooting space for trees in the midst of considerable pedestrian traffic.
